L.V. was born by the banks of the Roanoke River in Roanoke Rapids, North
Carolina. An only child, he was the first lawyer in his extended family of
aunts, uncles and cousins. After public schools there, he graduated from North
Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and a B.S. in
Political Science.
At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he earned his law degree
and clerked for the Honorable Judge Bruce Black [coincidentally, an Interfaith
Shelter Group volunteer], then a U.S. District Judge in Albuquerque and Santa
Fe. L.V. then clerked for the Honorable Terrence L. O’Brien, U.S. Circuit Judge
on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cheyenne, WY.
Returning to Santa Fe, L.V began private practice with the law firm of Long,
Pound & Komer, P.A. His practice areas include Civil Rights,
Discrimination, Employment Law, and Injury, finding work with his clients to be
most gratifying.
Outside the office, he enjoys fishing, takes piano lessons and aspires to
improve his Spanish. He serves as an officer in the Montezuma Lodge No.1 and
the Cerrillos Lodge #19 and, at the behest of a friend who is a breast cancer
survivor, became a board member of the Breast Cancer Resource Center.
L.V. and the Rev. Chester Topple have worked together as a two-member
leadership team at the shelter.
