Vahid was born in Tehran, Iran and immigrated to the U.S. in 1978 where he
completed high school and graduated from California Polytechnic. He is a
licensed architect with over 25 years’ experience developing, designing and
building affordable housing. Vahid is interested in design that addresses
issues of community, whether in affordable housing, emergency shelters or
education.
Vahid is principal of WAMO Studio LLC, an architecture and design studio he and
his wife started two years ago. His wide range of projects is found coast to
coast and overseas, from dense urban areas to rural county sites.
He has won numerous awards both locally and nationally for his work and has
been published in such notable magazines as Architecture, Architectural Record,
Builder Magazine, Domus, and Experimental Architecture. He has been a guest
critic at California Polytechnic, UCLA and the College of Design in Pasadena.
He is member of the American Institute of Architects and the US Green Building
Council.
Vahid’s primary focus for the shelter, besides volunteer work nights, is
acquisition and improvement of the building. Vahid is currently studying
community, homelessness and educational issues and how these can be addressed
by architecture. He is also continuing his effort to realize more sustainable
and obtainable residential projects, to satisfy the needs of the community and
its inhabitants. He is married with two children.
